Weeds has made Andy Milder, who plays Celia’s hubby on the show, a series regular, upgrading him from recurring.

Andy Milder has been promoted to a series regular on Showtime’s “Weeds” for the dark comedy’s upcoming third season, which kicks off August 13.

Milder has been recurring on “Weeds,” playing Dean Hodes, legal counsel for the suburban drug cartel and husband to Celia Hodes (Elizabeth Perkins). Mary-Louise Parker stars as a pot-dealing mom.

Still a few more months to wait for the third season premiere on Showtime.

Apparently Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen can do more things apart than just go to eating disorders rehab. Mary-Kate has signed on solo as a series regular on the edgy Showtime series Weeds.

Olsen will play Tara, a devoted Christian girl living in the newly developed megachurch community Majestic who becomes a love interest for Nancy Botwin’s ( Mary-Louise Parker) son Silas (Hunter Parrish). Olsen will appear in 10 of the 15 episodes of the show’s third season, which premieres August 13.

If you are thinking she is an unusual choice for the show, even series creator made a comment defending the choice of casting.

“‘Weeds’ isn’t your 8 o’clock family fare,” series creator and executive producer Jenji Kohan said. “It’s an adult show with adult subject matter, and we’re confident Mary-Kate is right for the role. She came in and read with Hunter and was absolutely charming and real and seemed like a great fit. Audiences have seen only one side of Mary-Kate, but here we’ll see her in a whole new light.”

An interesting choice, we’ll have to see how it pans out for Mary-Kate.

The third season of Weeds is getting better with Matthew Modine signing onto the series for a ten episode arc, where he will be getting hot and heavy with both Mary Louise Parker and Elizabeth Perkins.

Weeds is sweetening the pot in its third season.

Sources confirm that Matthew Modine is joining the cast for a 10-episode arc. He’ll play a real-estate developer who’s building a new community next to Agrestic. And in between bong hits, he’ll be romancing both Mary-Louise Parker and Elizabeth Perkins — although probably not at the same time. The show’s called Weeds, not Nip/Tuck.

And check out the picture of Matthew Modine at TVGuide… I can’t believe how OLD he is looking. I remember when he used to be hot… it was such a shock to see what he looks like now. But I am guessing that both the chickies will think he’s hot, or else makeup will be doing a really good job.
